Becoming a Digital Marketer

I am Christelle, an aspiring digital marketer who recently completed an intense digital marketing bootcamp.

My interest in digital marketing sparked years ago when I helped build the social media presence for a British school in Qatar. I saw firsthand how digital marketing can help connect with various stakeholders and grow a brand. I immediately knew that this was the future of Marketing and I wanted to be part of it.

After researching Digital Marketing courses options, I initial decided to enrol in the Digital Gum Skills Training and subsequently in the Curious Academy's program which was run by the same company. My goals were to soak up as much digital marketing knowledge as possible and get hands-on experience running campaigns. I hoped to gain the latest skills in areas like search marketing, social media ads, email marketing, and analytics.

A typical day involved coursework, professional speakers, hands-on workshops, and work on our project for a local company. It was a full schedule of learning concepts and applying skills. My brain was fired up with the wide range of information and the enthusiastic approach of the course leader.

Some key skills I developed include SEO, data analysis, and a range of marketing tools and platforms. My teammates and I shined during our final presentation, showcasing the campaign we built over several weeks. I'm proud of the thorough research, creative concepts, and polished pitch we pulled together. My nickname became the “detective” as I led the SWOT analysis and was always keen to research any relevant information relating to our client and the industry. Once we had gathered the relevant information, I put on my creative hat and designed a new logo and a social media campaign that resonated with our identified customer avatars.  

The fast pace of information was challenging at times. I overcame by studying concepts after hours and reaching out to mentors. My "aha" moment was during our presentation to the client and his very positive feedback which gave me great confidence that the digital marketing world was the one for me.

My superpowers now include in depth industry analysis, campaign design and leveraging social media platforms. The bootcamp gave me a strong foundation and toolkit to elevate my marketing skills.

The Curious Academy was the perfect training program, with knowledgeable instructors who always had a positive and “can do” attitude and a collaborative environment, working with a team of people with totally different backgrounds and aspirations. As a result I hope to thrive in a digital marketing specialist role and become a  brand ambassador. My goal is to continue learning on the job and expanding my skills.

My diverse multicultural background in areas like rebranding, content writing, event planning, and customer service will help me bring a unique and creative perspective to digital marketing campaigns. I'm excited to dive in and put my skills to use!

For anyone considering a program like this, I'd advise being open minded, asking lots of questions and absorbing as much information as possible. It's an intense learning experience, but so worthwhile.
