From Care Work to Content Creation

My journey to marketing wasn't a straight shot. While I enjoyed the diverse marketing elements I touched upon in previous roles, like print, email, and local initiatives, I craved a deeper dive. My experience in sales and even care work affirmed the presence of marketing threads woven into various aspects of business.

The online search for a marketing bootcamp led me to The Curious Academy in Reading, conveniently close to home. My goals were twofold: to enhance my knowledge and honestly, explore the feasibility of a marketing career. The bootcamp particularly piqued my interest with its focus on SEO and presentation techniques.

The project itself was a complete marketing overhaul for a local fire safety company. As project lead for website design and display advertising, I spearheaded the website layout and created content for advertisements on platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn. Defining buyer personas, or "avatars," was a game-changer. It narrowed the broad scope, allowing us to tailor everything to a specific target market – a skill I consider invaluable.

Perhaps my biggest strength, beyond the constant entertainment I apparently provide, is my ease with content creation. While having a target audience helped, it also unleashed my creativity, which I believe is crucial in any marketing role.

The bootcamp, with its comprehensive course covering various marketing aspects, alongside the phenomenal support throughout the course and job search, undoubtedly prepared me for a digital marketing role. The Curious Academy's excellent training facilities and the unwavering support from staff transformed a potentially daunting task into a manageable and even enjoyable experience.

The interview process, although lengthy and occasionally disappointing (which, let's face it, is often the reality), ultimately led to utilising my portfolio content and newly acquired marketing knowledge to land my current role.

I'm incredibly excited about the prospect of shaping the marketing efforts of this small company with limitless growth potential.

My advice to anyone considering a similar bootcamp: embrace an open mind. You'll learn a lot, potentially discover unexpected niches, and find support every step of the way.
